One Dollar 1966-1984
Decimal notes commenced on the 14th Febuary 1966 with the title "Commonwealth of Australia" and the wording of the legal tender clause "Legal tender throughout the Commonwealth of Australia and territories of the Commonwealth . Following a direction of the then Prime Minister Gough Whitlam in 1972, the title of Australian notes changed from "Commonwealth of Australia" to "Australia" and the lega tender clause to "This Australian note is legal tender throughout Australia and its territories" As a result, the signature combination of Phillips/Wheeler occurs in both the "Commonwealth " and "Australia" varieties. All One dollar notes had "Gothic serial numbering axcept Johnston/Stone One dollar notes.
